Small Pox
Board.
The Board in 1900 acquired between 50 and 60 acres of land
at North Cheam, in the Epsom Rural District, about equal distances
from Wimbledon and Croydon, on which a hospital, consisting
of a large administrative block, two 24 bed pavilions, and
one observation pavilion was erected. There is ample room, and
provision has been made for extensions when required. The erection
was so far completed as to be able to receive the 3 cases from
this district in December last year, and the 9 patients this year.
During the small pox epidemic, arrangements were made
between the Joint Board and the Surrey County Council for the
reception of patients from districts outside the Board's area.
Negotiations which, for some time past have been taking
place between the Board and the Urban District Council of Penge,
for the purpose of including that district within the Joint Board's
area, have been completed.
