Report of the Medical Officer of Health
For the Year ending 31st December, 1894.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present my Annual Report for the
year ended the 31st December, 1894.
The total number of births registered was 794 (394 males, 400
females), equal to a birth-rate of 26.4 per thousand per annum.
The total number of deaths registered was 310 (l68 males and
142 females), equal to a death-rate of 10.3 per thousand living
per annum, taking the population at 30,000 (the estimated population
at Midsummer, 1894).
It is with great satisfaction I have to state that the death-rate
for the year 1894 was lower than it has been for the last 18
years.
