A table required to be furnished to the Home Office showing
details of work carried out under the provisions of the
Factory and Workshop Act is given on pages 22 to 24 of the
Medical Officer of Health's Report.
Shops Act, 1912-1913.— Thirty-four visits were made to
the occupied shops in the district to ascertain if the provision
of the Acts were being complied with.
Slaughter-houses and Food Inspection.— The number of
registered slaughter-houses remains the same as last year,
viz., six. Two of these, however, have not been used for some
considerable time. One licence for a new slaughter-house was
granted for twelve months to the Borough Surveyor for a
portion of the premises at the Council's Depot, Queen's Road,
as empowered by Section 29 of the Public Health Acts (Amendment)
Act, 1890.
One hundred and ninety-two inspections have been made
during the year whilst slaughtering was in progress, and as
far as possible all animals killed in the town have been
examined prior to being exposed for sale.
In addition four hundred and twelve visits have been made
to shops of butchers, fishmongers and fruiterers, and other
places where food is prepared or exposed for sale, and the
following were surrendered and destroyed as trade refuse,
being unfit for human food:—
