of the former disease and two of the latter disease were notified,
the deaths being three and two respectively.
In accordance with the instructions of the Local Government
Board the following is a resume of the investigations into
ten of the cases in which reliable information was obtainable:—
Case 1.—T. M., aged years, of Sarah Villas, Tunmarsh
Lane, was notified on 1st August, but immediately
afterwards the family removed to Barking. On
obtaining this information and learning the address
the particulars were forwarded to the Medical Officer
of Health of Barking, on 6th August, and the vacated
house in Tunmarsh Lane disinfected. No further particulars
were obtainable.
Case 2.—G. M., aged 2 years 8 months, of Godfrey Street,
Stratford. On August 2nd, was shopping with his
parents when his father noticed he walked lame. On
Sunday, 3rd, he appeared more lame, while on
Monday and Tuesday he could do little more than
crawl. On Wednesday, August 6th he was taken to
the London Hospital as an out-patient, and under
the treatment received there has been improvement
ever since. He still walks lamely with the right leg,
which is colder than the left, but does not appear
wasted or thinner. Patient is the third of four
children. The mother had two miscarriages before
the birth of her first child. No case of paralysis on
either side of the family has been known. The disease
was notified to the Medical Officer of Health by the
Hospital Staff on 22nd August.
Case 3.—T. M., aged 1 year, of Gray Street, Silvertown. On
