VITAL STATISTICS.
The population of the Borough at the Census in 1901 was
267,358. The number of inhabited houses was 41,433, giving 6.4
persons to each house. The Registrar-General's estimate of the
population at the middle of 1910 was 328,585, but at the time of
writing this Report the provisional census population for the County
Borough as on the 1st of April, 1911, has been announced at 289,102,
therefore the revised estimated population to the middle of 1910 has
been calculated to be 287,471.
The area of the Borough is 4,706 acres, so that at the Census in 1901 there were 56'8 persons to the acre. Below is given the areas of the wards of the Borough (excluding water) and the population per acre in each ward at Census 1901:—
