Births.—The number of births registered during the year was
8,730 (4,515 males and 4,215 females), being 484 less than the
previous year and 428 less than the average number during the last 10
years.
The birth.rate for the year was 28.0 per 1,000, while the
average birth.rate during the 10 years 1899.1908 was 32.2 per 1,000. Distributed to the various wards of the Borough the births were as follows :-
