at premises in Sugar House Lane, was granted, subject to the
premises being put into substantial repair and the drainage and water
supply teing re.arranged to the satisfaction of the Medical Officer of
Health.
An application from Messrs. Williams, to establish soapmaking
at premises in Windmill Lane, was granted, subject to no fat melting
being carried on. The proceedings in this case subsequently
resulted in a fresh application in respect of premises known as
Magnet Works, Pudding Mill Lane, which application was granted,
subject to the premises being put into repair to the satisfaction of the
Committee.
An application from Messrs. Harold Heydon & Co., of Old
Paradise Street, Lambeth, to manufacture soap at Sugar House Lane,
was granted.
An application by Mr. F. Falco to melt fat at Temple Mill Lane
was granted, subject to the satisfaction of the Medical Officer of
Health as to the arrangements therefor.
Permission was also granted to Messrs. Frank How & Co. to
carry on business of oil, varnish, and grease manufacturers at Nos. 77
and 79, High Street, Stratford.
Common Lodging Houses.—There are 12 Common
Lodging Houses in the Borough, six in the Stratford district and si*
in the Tidal Basin district, all of which, with one exception, were
orginally constructed and used for other purposes, such as private
dwellings or warehouses, and have been adapted more or less
successfully to meet the requirements of the Common Lodging
House Bye.Laws.
The accommodation in these amount to 659 beds.
