VITAL STATISTICS.
Area.—The area of the County Borough of West Ham is
4,706 acres. Latitude 51° 30'—51° 33'N. Longitude 0° l'W.—
0° 3; E. Altitude, 1 foot to 46 feet above Ordnance datum.
Population.—The population of the Borough at the Census
in 1901 was 267,358. The number of inhabited houses 41,433,
giving 6.4 persons to each house. The estimated population at the
middle of 1906 was 301,617.
At the Census in 1901 the number of persons per acre was 56.8. Below is given the area of the wards of the Borough (excluding water) and the population per acre in each ward at Census year:—

Births.—The number of births registered during the year was
9,193, being 175 more than the previous year, but 148 less than the
average number during the last ten years. The birth.rate for the
year was 30.4 per 1,000, while the average birth.rate during the
