DEATHS FROM NOTIFIABLE INFECTIOUS
DISEASES.
The deaths under this heading include those arising from Erysipelas
and Puerperal Fever, but exclude those due to Measles, Whooping
Cough and Diarrhœa; with this difference the deaths are those usually
classed as Zymotic.
The deaths under both heads are from “Preventable Diseases,” as
in theory all diseases ought to be, and old age the sole cause of death;
but in this connection we only refer to the diseases amenable to Public
Health Administration and due to infection from person to person.
There were 52 deaths registered from Notifiable Infectious Diseases,
and 22 of these took place at the Sanatorium and are now included.
The deaths are considerably less than in previous years, in fact a
decrease in deaths from each disease is shown, Enteric and Puerperal
Fevers excepted.

The following table shows these deaths for 1907 and 1908 for the whole district and for the Wards :
