Six thousand and seventy-four premises have been inspected,
and sanitary improvements effected in 2,718 of them.
Reconstruction of Drains.—Premises to the number of 633
have had the drainage entirely reconstructed. In 24 cases, owing
to the position of the law relating to drains, sewers, single private
drains, and combined drains, the main drains have been reconstructed
by, and at the expense of the Council. In all these cases
when a new point of law has arisen, action has only been taken
after consultation with Mr. C. Sydney Watson, the Council's Clerk
and Solicitor.
