upplied under the powers conferred by the Milk (Mothers
and Children) Orders, 1919 and in accordance with the
terms of that Order, and the milk thus supplied has been of
the greatest possible value in providing a supply at a
comparatively moderate cost, and especially when the
amount of ordinary milk obtainable was much restricted.
In the large majority of cases the full cost price of the
milk was paid by the recipients, but in certain cases, after
enquiry into their circumstances, dried milk was supplied at
less than cost price or free.
During the year 5838 lbs. of dried milk were supplied,
approximately equivalent to 58380 pints of milk when reconstituted.
The distribution at less than cost price was very
carefully safeguarded, all applications being recommended
by the Medical Officer to the Centre, countersigned by the
Medical Officer of Health, and subsequently submitted to
the Committee.
The recipients of dried milk at less than cost price
were:—
Mothers, expectant or nursing—Free, 10; reduced
prices, 6; total, 16.
Children under 3 years—Free, 21; reduced prices, 32;
total, 53.
