By the term " Non-resident" is meant persons brought
into the district on account of sickness or infirmity, and dying
in public institutions here, and the term " Resident"
is meant persons who have been taken out of the district on
account of sickness or infirmity, and have died in public
institutions elsewhere.
The "Public Institutions" to be taken into account for
the purposes of Table IV are those into which persons are
habitually received on account of sickness or infirmity, such
as hospitals, workhouses and lunatic asylums.
It follows therefore that the death of any person really
belonging to an outside district must be classified as
" Resident" unless such person dies in a local Public
Institution, when he is deemed a "Non-resident."
Fifty deaths of residents occurred outside the District in
the undermentioned places :—
Isleworth Infirmary 33
Hounslow Hospital 1
National Hospital for Paralysis, &c. 2
Wandsworth Asylum 3
Children's Hospital, Great Ormond
Street 1
Westminster Hospital 1
St. Bartholomew's Hospital 1
Peckham House Asylum 1
St. Luke's Hospital 1
King's College ,, 2
St. Thomas' ,, 1
Nursing Home, Putney 1
Found in River Thames 2

This number is a decrease on last year's number of six.
The corrected " average" of death is ascertained by
including deaths of residents (50) who have died outside the
district and deducting those of non-residents (2) dying within
the district. Therefore the corrected average is 299, which is
represented by 11'07 per 1000, is a decrease of 2'33 per 1,000
upon the previous year, a very satisfactory figure.
