Dairies, Cowsheds and Milkshops.
There are at present 44 registered Dairies and Milkshops
in the district, all of which are inspected at intervals during
the year.
On the question of milk s apply the opinion previously
expressed, and which is generally endorsed by various
authorities on the subject, that the supply of milk from shops
other than proper dairies is not to be commended. The
latter are, of necessity constructed specially for the storage
and sale of milk, where the temperature can be regulated
so as to retard the development of bacteria, and
the milk is stored in such a manner as to ensure this
important article of food being kept from contamination.
There is only one argument in favour of the sale of milk
from small shops, and that is the accommodation to certain
customers, but it is obvious that this argument can have little
weight, having regard to the fact that our local dairymen
sufficiently cater for the sale of milk to meet the requirements
of the district.

The Veterinary burgeon reported tnat lie liad examined all the milch cows in the district in each quarter of the year.
