twelve months. Included in the above figures are 16 premature
births. The Infantile Mortality is equal to 9'3 percentage
of births. This is a decrease of 1.9 on the previous
year.
The attention of the Council is again directed to the
deaths which have taken place amongst infants under one
year of age as compared with the number of births in all
Wards. The returns shew that about one death occurs in
every ten births.
The Council was invited to attend the National Conference
on Infantile Mortality at Westminster, but it was
decided not to take any action in the matter.

I drew the attention of the Council to the deaths amongst infants under one year of age since 1901, the statistics being as follows, viz.:—

From these figures it would appear that about 50 per
cent, of the infantile mortality in the whole district arose
in the West Ward.
Water Supply and Analyses.
Five samples of water drawn from wells were analysed
and with one exception were found to be good, and fit for
drinking and domestic purposes.
The Metropolitan Water Board have from time to time
reported that the water service to several houses had ceased.
