New Streets.
The following new streets have been made up under
the provisions of the Private Street Works Act, 1892:—
Copthall Gardens.
Andover Road.
Hartington Road.
Public Health Acts Amendment Act, (907.
The Council made application to the Home Office for
an order conferring upon the Council the powers contained in
Part VII. (Police) Part VIII. (Fire Brigade) and Part IX. (Sky
Signs,) of the Act.
Representations were also made to the Local Government
Board requesting that an order might be made giving
the Council powers under Part II. (Streets and Buildings),
Part III. (Sanitary Provisions), Part IV. (Infectious Disease),
Part V. (Common Lodging Houses), and Part VI. (Recreation
Grounds).
It is to be desired that the Local Government Board
will accede to the application, as there has been a long felt
difficulty experienced in dealing with "cisterns" used for
the supply of water for domestic purposes being so placed or
constructed or kept as to preserve the water from impurities.
The provision and conversion of water-closets is most
important, and has from time to time given considerable
trouble, therefore powers giving the Council larger jurisdiction
will be beneficial.
The question of dealing with urinals opening on the
streets has caused some trouble, and any new enactment will
be of great service, as will powers enabling the Council to deal
with urinals attached to inns, public houses, beer houses,
eating houses, refreshment houses or places of public
entertainment.
