All defective children requiring special school training are referred
to the Education Committee, who authorise their admission to special
schools.
Tottenham has a special school for deaf children and children hard
of hearing. Since 1913 my annual reports have given some details of the
work done in this school, and the inadequacy of the buildings for the
purpose. There is no material change for the better in the circumstances
to-day.
There are 33 children from this district being maintained in Special
Residential Schools. Five of these are crippled children, 11 blind, 11
mentally defective, 3 epileptic and 3 suffering from heart disease.
Secondary Schools.
By arrangement with the County Council, school children are
inspected according to the Board's requirements. No treatment is
undertaken.
Continuation Schools.
These have not yet been provided.
Remedial Exercises.
During the year the Committee lost the advantages of Miss Walmsley's
services and remedial exercises fell, in a large measure, into abeyance.
451 children suffering from the undermentioned defects have been
treated, 121 were cured, and the remainder were much improved by the
treatment given.
Curvature of Spine (threatened and Fiat-Foot 23
established) 69 Infantile Paralysis 8
Lordosis 26 Torticollis 7
Round Shoulders 156 Other Forms 162
An Instructor of Remedial Exercises, under Dr. Anderson, is about
to be appointed.
