now at hand for making more correct diagnoses.
Much valuable work is being done in this and other
countries to discover the causes of this terrible
disease with a view to its prevention and cure, and
it is understood that the progress made in this
direction is satisfactory.
Cerebro-Spinal, Fever.β€”In August, the Local
Government Board issued a Memorandum to every
Sanitary Authority, dealing with the symptoms and
diagnosis of this disease, in order that they "should
be on the alert to detect it if a case appeared in the
district." A copy of this Memorandum together
with a letter was sent to every medical man
practising within the district. No case, however,
was reported.
Accidents and Inquests.β€” Br. M. H. Taylor,
H.M. Coroner for Surrey, in his report mentions that
14 inquests were held on Surbiton cases. These
inquests of course include the Cottage Hospital
deaths, and are from all parts, but of those belonging
to the District itself there were 11. These may be
classed as follows:β€”
Verdicts of the Juries.
Deaths by wilful or criminal acts:
" Suicide by hanging" 1
Deaths by accident or misadventure:
" Killed by vehicle in street " 1
" Asphyxia at birth and fall " 1
