Natural, Social, and Sanitary Conditions
of the District.
The Physical features and General Characteristics of the
District were described in the Annual Report for 1911.
Population.
The Population of the Borough estimated by the Registrar
General to the middle of the year 1913 was 33,592.
Social Conditions.
The Borough is chiefly a residential district; the few
industries being Building, Dyeing and Cleaning Works, a
Brewery, and those industries and occupations connected with
boating.
Out-door Belief by the Board of Guardians. The following
particulars give the amounts granted by the Guardians in
Out-door Relief to persons resident in the Borough:—
Oct. 1st, 1911, to Oct. 1st, 1912, to
Sept. 30th, 1912, Sept. 30th, 1913,
For twelve months £1,570 Os. Od. £1.553 4s. 8d.
Old Age Pensions. The number of Pensions granted to
residents within the Borough during the year ending Nov. 9th,
1913, was 98, as against 102 for the previous year.
Richmond Royal Hospital. The Secretary, Mr. Richard
Allen, has kindly supplied the following information:—
The number of Patients treated at the Royal Hospital
during 1913 were—In-Patients, 704; Out-Patients, 7213. The
total number of Attendances was 28,890. The patients attending
from the Borough of Richmond were—In-Patients, 230;
Out-Patients, 768; Ophthalmic Patients, 440, and Dental
Patients, 326.
Water Supply.
The Borough water supply is obtained partly from the
Metropolitan Water Board, partly from deep wells in the
Borough, one in oolite and one in chalk, and partly from a well
in gravel beds at Petersham.
