Prom the second week in November cases oi scarlet
lever occurred from time to time in connection with scholars
of the Wesleyan schools and for a fortnight your medical
officer made repeated visits to the schools and inspected the
children; eventually a child was found in the peeling stage but
as the disease had occurred among scholars of the various
departments it was considered advisable to close the schools
for 12 days, and this was done in accordance with Article 57 of
the Code of 1908. This matter is referred to more in detail in
the report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Diphtheria. —On May 20th a scholar of Darell Road—
Girls' Department—was notified as suffering from diphtheria;
two scholars who had been sitting near the invalid were found
with inflamed throats and were excluded from school. Three
homes of absentees from this department were visited but there
was no evidence of diphtheria in any of them. No other cases
occurred in connection with the scholars of that school.
Notification Form for Schools.—In 1904, arrangements
were made, with the consent of the Managers of the
schools, for the teachers to notify to the Medical Officer any
scholar absent, said to be suffering from Measles, Whooping
Cough, Chicken-pox, or Mumps.
This arrangement is most satisfactory and will be continued.
The following is a copy of the form employed:—
