to. On several occasions, at the request of the School Attendance
Officer, or Head Teachers, 1 visited and reported on children who
were absent from School, said to he ill, but not under medical
treatment. In only one instance was the statement incorrect, and
the child was sent to School again immediately after my visit.
One child mentally defective was examined and certificate
given.
One child was certified for a Truant School.
Testing of the Sights of Scholars. In consequence of a
Special Report to the Elementary Education Sub-Committee regarding
the testing of the sight of Scholars, it was suggested by
that Committee that a preliminary test should be carried out by
the Teachers. Test Cards were obtained and I called at each
School and explained to the Head Teachers the manner of using
the Test Cards. The examinations are being carried out and the
results will be reported to you when completed.
Ventilation, &c. Advice as to ventilation, lighting and heating
has been given to Teachers on different occasions.
Without exception I have met with every assistance from the
Teachers, otherwise my duties would have been considerably increased.
I beg to remain, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Yours obediently,
J. H. CROCKER, M.D.
