The number of deaths due to the "seven principal
Zymotic Diseases"‡ usually classified under
this heading was 28. This gives a zymotic death
rate of .85 per 1,000 persons living, being below the
average for the Borough. The zymotic death rate of England and
Wales for 1903 was 1.46, that for the 76 great towns 1.89, and
Rural England and Wales 1.08.
Scarlet Fever.—2 deaths.
Measles.—4 deaths, all but one below five years of age.
Diphtheria and Group.—10 deaths, six below five years of age
Whooping Cough.—2 deaths, both below five years of age.
Enteric fever.—One death.
Diarrhoea.—9 deaths, 7 of these being below one year of age.
