PREVALENCE OF AND CONTROL OVER INFECTIOUS
DISEASE.
Diphtheria.—Thirty-nine cases were reported with one
death, which equals an incidence rate of 2.08 per 1,000 of
estimated population, and the death-rate of .05 per 1,000 of
population.
The monthly incidence was as follows :—

6 in May
7 in June
3 in July
2 in August
2 in September
3 in October
2 in November
4 in December
All the cases were removed to hospital.

The number of swabs examined for the Diphtheria Bacillus
was 151.
Scarlet Fever.—Sixty-five cases were notified, which
equals an incidence rate of 3.4 per 1,000 of estimated population.
Again, the infection was of a mild type as no deaths were
registered.
