Merton & Morden urban District Council
HEALTH REPORT FOR 1923.
TO THE CHAIRMAN AND MEMBERS OF THE
MERTON AND MORDEN URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour of submitting my Annual Report of the
year 1923, being the sixteenth since Merton became an Urban
District and the eleventh since its amalgamation with Morden.
The birth-rate for the district was 18.1 per 1,000 of estimated
population, as compared with 19.7 per 1,000 for England
and Wales.
The birth-rate in 1922 was 19.7, and in 1921 17.8 per 1,000
of estimated population.
The standardised death-rate was 8.1 per 1,000 of estimated
population, as against 11.6 per 1,000 for England and Wales.
The death-rate in 1922 was 10.7 and in 1921 was 7.6
per 1,000 of estimated population.
The infant mortality rate was 26.3 per 1,000 of registered
births as compared with 69 per 1,000 registered births for
England and Wales.
The corresponding figures in 1922 were 46.5 and 77.
This is again the lowest infant mortality rate recorded
since the formation of the District, the previous lowest figure
being that for 1922.
