PETROLEUM ACT.
There were applications for licences to store petroleum
spirit received, seven being for the renewal of the existing
licences, and one for the granting of a new licence. The quantities
authorised to be stored varied from 40 gallons to 2,000
gallons. In the latter case the building for storage was
especially constructed in concrete and galvanized iron, partially
underground, and practically fireproof.
The whole of the licences were for storage of petrol for use
in motor cars.
One licence was also issued for the storage of Calcium
Carbide, in quantity not exceeding half a ton. From this,
Aceteleyne Gas is generated and used, on account of it® great
heat, in the fusion of metals at the Aircraft Factory in the High
Street.
In conclusion, I desire to thank the other Officers of the
Council for the valuable assistance which has frequently been
accorded me.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant.
J. B. POINTON.
