There has been no change in the general character and
occupation of the inhabitants of the district.
The house accommodation is ample for the population, but
owing; to low wages and unemployment the number of families
occupying one house have increased.
The open spaces about the houses are sufficient, and the
yards are paved.
The erection of new houses is under the control of the
Surveyor and his Department; all new houses have a concrete
foundation and the drains are laid according to the latest improvements.
The water to the whole district is supplied by the Metropolitan
Water Board from the Thames.
The Sale of Food and Drugs Act is carried out by the County
Inspector from Kingston. The Sanitary Inspector has also been
appointed an Inspector under these Acts to take independent
samples when required.
