Soiled handkerchiefs should be kept moist until they
can be washed or destroyed.
Spoons, cups, &c., used by Consumptives should be for
their special use and put into hot water when done with.
No mother who is Consumptive should suckle a child.
All milk should be boiled before use, so that the germs
may be killed.
Medical Practitioners in the Borough can have specimens
of sputum bacteriologically examined free of charge, so that
persons consulting a medical man can ascertain whether they
are suffering from this disease or not.
DISINFECTION.
In cleansing rooms occupied by Consumptives avoid
dust. Use damp dusters; sprinkle tea leaves before sweeping.
After, burn tea leaves and boil dusters.
After the death or removal of a patient the room should
be disinfected, and in addition all walls should be stripped
and ceilings and paintwork cleaned.
Consumption is not caught by the breath or the skin,
and provided proper precautions are taken there is no danger
in living in the same house with persons suffering from this
disease.
