I would therefore urge on you to co-operate with those
Authorities and Associations which are endeavouring to bring
about better regulations for the milk supply, such as have been so
advantageously adopted in Denmark, a country which is rapidly
acquiring a reputation as a source of milk and butter absolutely
free from tuberculous infection, and is growing rich at the cost of
short-sighted agriculturalists in other countries.
DISPOSAL OF REFUSE.
I congratulate you on the progress made towards building a
Dust Destructor. It is to be hoped that another year will see it
at work.
There is still room for improvement in the matter of street
scavenging and cleansing. The cost of such work is heavy, but
clean and dry streets and roads tend towards the reduction of all
kinds of disease. Dust in summer distributes disease germs, and
moisture in winter, by causing chills, etc., reduces the resistance
of individuals to the germs that are constantly present
amongst us.
In conclusion, I have again to thank you for the consideration
with which you have always listened to the proposals and suggestions
I have placed before you.
Your obedient servant,
H. BEALE COLLINS.
