CHICKEN POX.
Of the minor infectious diseases reported from the
schools Chicken Pox has been the most prevalent during the
last year. 423 cases have been so reported, and it is curious
how it passed from the most southern school in the district to
the north, through the centre of the district.
WHOOPING COUGH.
For the past year there were reported 243 cases of
Whooping Cough. There were 14 deaths, giving a deathrate
of .23 per 1,000 living.
In 1904 there were 8 deaths, giving a death rate of .14

PHTHISIS.
For 1905 there were 38 deaths, giving a death-rate of .62

It is curious how little the gross numbers of the deaths
have varied the last four years. Sheffield has obtained power
to make the notification of Phthisis compulsory, and it will
be of interest to watch the result of the experiment.
