The number of persons per acre over the whole district is
6.78, and the figure varies in the different wards as under:—
Heston Ward 2.47
Hounslow North Ward 9.99
„ South 12.09
Isleworth North „ 6 67
„ South „ 11.37
In Table I. at the end of this report, it will be noted that
the number of people living in institutions in this district but
belonging to other districts is 814. These are technically known
as "non-residents." This number, when deducted from the
estimated gross population, gives the estimated nett population,
namely, 47,547.
SOCIAL CONDITIONS.
In order to comply with the desire of the Local Government
Board that the Medical Officer of Health should give in his report
information with respect to the social conditions of the district, I
have extracted the following information from the Census of
occupations of 1911:—
The occupation of the inhabitants may be divided
into—(a) Workers who travel daily to London.
(b) Workers employed locally.
The former class are either—(1) Clerks or those engaged in
clerical work; (2) Professional men, merchants, agents, etc., or
(3) Artisans.
Increased facilities are provided by railways, tramways
etc., for the latter class, the proportion of whom residing
in the district is gradually increasing.
According to the Census, out of 12,812 occupied
males in the district, the following three groups accounted
for 1541:—
