84 deaths of residents aged 75 or over were registered during the year, compared with 75 in 1907. Of these, 35 were males and 49 females, compared with 31 and 44 last year. The details of these deaths are as follows:—

These deaths of old persons constitute a percentage of 15.90
of all resident deaths registered.
It is interesting to compare the number of deaths of old
people and the proportion of such deaths to deaths at all ages
in the district during the past six years. It will be seen from
the following table that in four years from 1903 to 1906, the
percentages of deaths over 75 to deaths at all ages were practically
identical. In 1907 there was a marked rise in the percentage, due
to the fact that although there was an increase of four in the
number of deaths over 75 there was a decrease in the number of
deaths at all ages.
This year the deaths at 75 and over have
increased by nine, but there is a marked increase in the total of
deaths at all ages and therefore the percentage is lower than last
year.
