There is also a settling tank between the secondary
and tertiary contact beds to arrest the suspended matters
remaining in the sewage after its passage through the
primary and secondary beds.
The sludge is buried in trenches on the land, and the
effluent is discharged by gravitation into the Thames at
the south-eastern boundary of the district.
The works have been carried on in a very efficient
manner during the year.
I enclose the returns for the Local Government Board,
the Home Office and the County Council.
Appended hereto is a tabular statement showing the
work carried out by the Inspector of Nuisances during the
year, which is to be incorporated in this report, in accordance
with the order of the Local Government Board.
The work of the Public Health Department has shown
signs of steadily increasing and growing in importance:
and in concluding this report it gives me an opportunity of
expressing my sincere thanks to my Inspector of Nuisances
—Mr. A.Shail—for many acts of assistance and support
which have been loyally given to me during the past year.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
WENTWORTH TYNDALE.
The Chairman and Members,
Hampton Urban District Council.
