Annual Report of the Chief Sanitary
and Food Inspector.
To His Worship the Mayor, the Aldermen and Councillors of the
County Borough of East Ham.
Mr. Mayor and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit to you my twenty-third Annual
Report on the work done by the Sanitary Inspectors during the
year ended 31st December, 1918.
The total number of inspections made during the year under
consideration was 1,962. These include visits to premises upon
complaints of nuisance, inspections of markets, workshops,
slaughterhouses, bakehouses, cowsheds, dairies, etc.
There have been 2,009 nuisances discovered, comprising
choked and defective drains, leaky roofs, defective sanitary
appliances, animals improperly kept, etc.
In obtaining the abatement of the aforesaid nuisances, the
following Notices were served:—

Dust Bin 141
Water 7
making a total of 1,016 Notices.
During the year 1,2.15 complaints were received, as follows :—
Beckton and North Woolwich Ward 109
Central Ward—East 243
Central Ward—West 261
Manor Park Ward 279
Plashet Ward—East 158
Plashet Ward—West 165
The complaints referred principally to defective drainage and
appurtenances to the drains proper.
