STATEMENT SHOWING THE WORK NOW BEING CARRIED OUT IN
CONNECTION WITH THE SCHEME FOR MATERNITY AND
CHILD WELFARE.
Ante-Natal classes are held on Wednesday afternoons. Short
addresses are given by the Inspector of Midwives.
Practical demonstrations in clothing infants are held and
patterns are given.
Visits are made by the Health Visitors to homes of expectant
mothers.
Five maternity boxes have been provided out of voluntary
fundi for loan in necessitous cases. Milk is also supplied out of
the same fund.
Any cases requiring medical advice are referred to the Medical
Officer of Health or Lady Assistant School Medical Officer.
Infant consultations have in the past been held on Friday
afternoons, but the numbers in attendance have increased to such
an extent that it has now been decided to have two afternoons per
week.
The infants are weighed, advice given, and in those cases
where necessary Virol is supplied, the parents making a small
payment.
Fither the Medical Officer of Health or Assistant School
Medical Officer attends to give advice.
Cases of Ophthalmia Neonatorum are visited, and when the
Health Visitor is not satisfied with the treatment, the parent is
advised to bring the infant to the Clinic.
