GENERAL REVIEW OF FACTS DISCLOSED BY MEDICAL
INSPECTION.
Nutrition.
390 boys and 295 girls were noted as being below normal
nutrition.
This gives a percentage of 9.56 in boys and 7.76 in girls.
One boy and three girls were given as badly nourished.
This percentage is higher than the previous year, but the
estimate of the nutrition of a child is a difficult matter and varies
by different inspectors.
The relation of the weight to the height is helpful, but other
conditions have to be taken into consideration.
This condition is often more frequently due to improper food
than to insufficiency, combined with bad hygienic surroundings.
The presence of bad teeth and enlarged tonsils with adenoids,
together with other septic conditions of the mouth, are largely
responsible for some cases of mal-nutrition.
The relation of the weight to the height is a fair standard to
take, but this is not sufficient alone to estimate the condition of
the child's health.
The following tables, giving the average weights and height,
are interesting, but as the weight of clothing varies to a certain
extent, at the time of weighing, allowance should be made to
obtain the exact condition.
