Isolation Hospital, Roman Road.

The total admissions for the year were 953, as compared with 889 for the previous year. The following table shows the results obtained:—

The accommodation at the Hospital has been taxed to the
utmost, and although I have admitted every case where this
was asked for, it was not possible to give the patients the requisite
amount of air space required for infectious diseases, and I had
hoped that the proposed extension, for which plans have already
been prepared, would have been proceeded with before this time.
SCARLET FEVER.
503 cases of Scarlet Fever were admitted during the year, and
there were 58 remaining in the Hospital from the previous year,
making a total of 561 cases treated. Three deaths occurred,
which gives the low death-rate for the disease of 0.5 per cent.
Two cases died a short time after admission from Malignant
Scarlet Fever. It was noticed that the cases admitted towards
the last few months of the year were more severe, and developed
more complications in the way of suppuration of glands and septic
