In connection with the Infants' Clinics an Ante-Natal Class
has been formed so that expectant mothers may attend and advice
given for their future welfare.
INSTRUCTION IN SWIMMING.
The swimming baths provide bathing accommodation for
1,000 boys and 500 girls each week.
The baths are available for boys on Mondays, Tuesdays, and
Thursdays, forenoon, and boys to the number of 60 each halfhour
attend from the different schools.
For girls the baths are available on Monday afternoons and
Wednesday mornings and afternoons.
One teacher accompanies every 30 scholars.
During the year a swimming competition is held, when some
fine swimming contests between different schools for the challenge
cups and shields may be seen.
Each teacher takes great interest in instructing scholars, and
keen competition is shown.
THE INSPECTION CLINIC.
The Inspection Clinic was conducted on each school day as
follows:—Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9
to 10 a.m., and on Friday from 9 a.m. until noon or later as the
work demanded. In addition a few special cases were seen on
Saturday mornings.
As in the previous year, cases which required detailed and
lengthy examination were frequently met with between 9 and 10
o'clock, and if the nature of such allowed of their being referred
to Friday forenoon, when more time was available, this was done.
The supply of cases to the Inspection Clinic was from the following
sources :—
1. Cases referred from Routine Medical Inspection to
further examination.
2. Cases sent by School Teachers.
3. Cases sent by Attendance Officers.
4. Cases sent by Divisional Committees, and
5. Cases brought by parents.
