In accordance with the request of the Local Government
Board, as expressed in their letter of November 11th, 1913, I
presented a report containing information concerning the recent
epidemic of Diphtheria in the Borough, together with an account
of the measures undertaken to control the spread of the disease,
and the number of patients admitted to the Isolation Hospital.
" The Borough has been remarkably free from Diphtheria for
the last few years, only 72 cases being notified in 1912, as compared
with 456 in 1908 and 271 in 1909.
" During the quarter ending December 31st, 1912, the number of cases notified in East Ham was 6, as compared with:—
Ilford | 30 cases. |
Leyton | 31 „ |
Walthamstow | 46 „ |
" From December 31st, 1912, to June 1st, 1913, 27 cases were notified. | |
In June | 22 cases were notified. |
„ July | 15 „ „ |
„ August | 15 „ „ |
„ September | 28 „ „ |
„ October | 50 „ „ |
" It will thus be seen that the increasing number of cases
notified was seasonal, viz., during the dry, dusty weather.
