It is pleasing to record a still further decline in the rate ol
Infantile Mortality.
The rate is the lowest yet recorded, and is one of the lowest
in the United Kingdom.
The rate has been gradually reduced during the past few
years, and as the summer of 1913 was dry (but not unusually hot'
we might take some credit in connection with the work carried on
by means of the Infant Consultation in this reduction of Infantile
Mortality.
The Infant Consultations, which are conducted at the old
Public Offices, Wakefield Street, continue to attract mothers with
their infants.
Many of the babies brought to the Clinic were wasting and
badly nourished, owing to insufficient knowledge of the mother on
the care and feeding of her baby. A large number uld probably
have died had not the advice and instruction obtaine at the Clinic
