APPENDIX II.
First Annual Report of the Dental Treatment
at the East Ham School Clinic.
Accommodation.
The same rooms are at the disposal of the Dental
Officer as for the School Medical Officers and the eye specialist,
and are in use three mornings per week for dental work, viz.,
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
The surgery is equipped with an up-to-date operating chair,
spittoon, and all necessary instruments, etc.
Equipment and Outfit.
Chair.—An hydraulic pump chair specially designed and
adapted for children is in use. The back, arms, head-rest, etc.,
are adjustable, so that the chair will accommodate children of the
youngest or oldest school age.
All the metal parts are white enamel or oxidised copper, the
seat, back, and footboard of wood, and the head-rest of leather,
so that the various parts can easily be kept clean and sterilised.
The Cabinet.—An antiseptic table with hospital cupboard
enamelled white, glass sides and shelves to keep all the instruments,
drugs, materials, etc., used in the dental department.
Spittoon.—The most necessary part of the outfit is of crystal
glass with japanned base with hot and cold water supply.
Dental Engine.—The engine is of the electrical type, all cord,
motor japanned black and plated arm.
Bracket Table is mounted on tripod stand enamelled
white, provided for holding the instruments, etc., in use during
each operation, and is easily kept clean.
Artificial Light is provided by means of an adjustable electric
pendant above the chair.
