Complaints Received.—During the year 1910, 1,035 complaints
were received (565 written and 470 verbal), as compared
with 996 for the previous year.
There is an increase in the number of verbal complaints,
but this is explained by the more general use of the telephone.
Many of the complaints were of a frivolous nature, and others
entirely outside the provisions of the Public Health Acts, but
the majority were complaints of bona-fide nuisances requiring
abatement.

Complaints were received from premises in the various. Wards as follows:—
