ILLEGITIMATE BIRTHS.
The number of these registered was 80, which represents
2.3 per cent, of the total births. In 1909 the percentage of
these was 1.4 per cent. 30 of these illegitimate births occurred
in the Workhouse.
The death.rate of these illegitimate infants under 1 year
was equal to 287 per 1,000 births registered. The rate for
legitimate infants of the same age being 86 per 1,000.
DEATHS.
I am pleased to note that the death rate for 1910 is the
lowest yet registered in the Borough, giving a rate for the year
of 8.5, as against 9.4 last year.
The number of deaths which took place in the Borough
during the year was 1,069. Of these 36 were non.residents of
the Borough and can therefore be excluded. Particulars concerning
them were sent to the district to which they belonged.
297 deaths were reported of persons belonging to the Borough
which had taken place in various institutions outside the
district. .44 occurred in the Workhouse, 125 in the Infirmary,
and 128 in various Hospitals, etc. Including these we have a
net total of 1,330 belonging to the Borough, which gives a rate
of 8.5.
