FOOD AND DRUGS ACT.

The Inspector for this district, Mr. McKirdy, has furnished the following particulars as to the number of samples taken and results of analyses during the past year:—

Proceedings were instituted in 14 cases with the following
results:—
FOR BUTTER ADULTERATION.
i dealer was fined £4 and costs 15s. 6d.
1 „ „ £3 I2S.
4 dealers were each fined £2 and costs 10s.
1 dealer was fined £1 and costs 10s.
1 dealer was fined 10s. and special costs £8 2s.
FOR MILK ADULTERATION.
1 dealer was fined £6 and costs 12s., or one
month. (Defendant was unable to pay
and went to prison.)
t dealer was fined £2 and costs 24s. 6d.
2 dealers were fined £2 10s. and costs 15s. 6d.
1 dealer was fined £1 and costs l1s.
1 dealer was fined £ 1 and costs 10s.
In addition, for offences under the Margarine Act, four
dealers were fined £1 and costs 18s. 6d., £1 and costs 5s.,
£2 and costs 10s., and £1 and costs 10s.
Of the remaining cases of'adulteration, in two milk cases
the amount was light and the vendor cautioned. Three
samples of adulterated butter were purchased unofficially
for detective purposes and no proceedings were possible on
them.
