In connection with quality and adulteration the County
Council Authorities are at present responsible for the working
of the Food and Drugs Act. Particulars of the samples taken
and results of analyses are given on page 35.
CUSTOMS AND INLAND REVENUE ACT.
By the authority of Section. 26, 53 and 54 Vict., c. 8, and
Section 11,3 Ed. VII., c. 46, exemption from Inhabited
House Duty is granted to owners of tenements of an annual
value of less than £10, if the Medical Officer is satisfied that
they afford suitable accommodation for each of the families or
persons dwelling therein and that due provision is made for
their sanitary requirements.
During the year a number of tenements were visited and
many certificates were refused, the premises not being suitable
for two families. Certificates were granted in respect of 46
tenements.
DISINFECTION.
857 premises were disinfected during the year chiefly by
spraying with Coal Tar disinfectant. The steam disinfector at
the Isolation Hospital is used for bedding and other articles
that require disinfection.
