SMALL POX.
No case has been notified since 1904.
Provision for the isolation of cases of this disease is secured
at the Small Pox Hospital of the West Ham Corporation,
which is situated at Dagenham.
SCARLET FEVER.
576 cases were notified as compared with 1,000 cases during
the previous year. Scarlet Fever was rather prevalent during
January and February, but during the remaining months of
the year a marked diminution took place in the prevalence of
this disease. A number of cases were of a very mild type, so
much so that in many instances the nature of the illness was
not recognised until desquamation commenced. It is these mild
and unrecognised cases of the disease, which are chiefly responsible
for the continued Endemic prevalence of Scarlet Fever in
all large centres of population. The deaths resulting from
Scarlet Fever numbered 15, this gives a death-rate of 2.6 per
cent, as compared with a death-rate of 2.4 per cent during the
previous year.
The following Table gives the number of cases of Scarlet
Fever notified, the attack rate per 1,000 of population and the
Case Mortality of the disease during the past five years :—
