NOTIFIABLE INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
The total number of cases of Infectious Disease notified
during the past year was 966, this is equal to an attack rate of 6.4
per i,oooof population. The Infectious Diseases Notification Act
was passed in 1889 and I find on searching through the statistics
of the Borough that the rate during the past year is the lowest
recorded in this district since notification first came into force 20
years ago.
This decrease was not brought about through any marked
diminution in the prevalence of any particular disease, but was
due to a material and very gratifying decrease in the number of
cases of all the notifiable infectious diseases.
During the past 5 years the total number of cases notified and the attack rates per 1,000 of population have been as follows:—
1905 | 1906 | 1907 | 1908 | 1909 | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
No. of cases | 1,437 | 1,230 | 1,617 | 1,634 | 966 |
Rate per 1,000 of population | 11.9 | 9.4 | 11.8 | 11.4 | 6.4 |
