Annual Report of the Chief Sanitary Inspector.
To his Worship the Mayor, the Aldermen, and
Councillors of the Borough of East Ham.
Mr. Mayor and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present to you my fourteenth
Annual Report of the work done by the Sanitary Inspectors
during the year ended 31st December, 1909.
Inspection of the Borough and Abatement of Nuisances.—I
am pleased to record that during the year under review much
activity was displayed in the discharge of the duties incumbent
upon the Inspectorial Staff to improve the sanitation of the
Borough and Health of the Burgesses. The character and
usefulness of the work done with its effect, are best judged by
the healthy condition of the inhabitants and the high standard
the Borough has attained in the position of healthy Towns.
It is only necessary to call your attention to the table on page
16 to confirm the practical character of the work.

In investigating complaints lodged, notification of infectious diseases received, house to house inspections, etc., 4,874 inspections were made as under :—

As a result of the inspections made 6,705 nuisances have been
discovered as set forth in the following table, 2,676 by House
to House Inspection, and 4,209 by Routine work necessitating
the service of 1,429 Preliminary, 96 Statutory, 23 Water and
135 Dust Bin Notices.
