BOROUGH OF EAST HAM.
REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH FOR THE YEAR 1909.
VITAL STATISTICS.
POPULATION.
As it is now nine years since the last Official Census was
made, it is difficult to obtain a very accurate estimate of the
present population, and consequently the Vital Statistics based
on this have become less reliable.
According to the estimate of the Registrar General, the
population of the Borough at the middle of 1909 was 149,575.
It is practically certain that this figure is too high, the
growth of the Borough during recent years has not been
so rapid as formerly, while the percentage of empty houses
is probably larger now than at the time of the Census.
For the purpose of calculating the various rates in this
report the estimate of population given by the Registrar General
has been used in order that our figures may be compared with
other districts, the populations of which have been similarly
estimated by him.
