To effect the remedying of the sanitary defects referred to
in the foregoing table, it necessitated serving 935 Preliminary
Notices, 91 Statutory Notices, 23 Water Notices, 209 Dust Bin
Notices and the writing of a large number of letters.
In reviewing the nature of the nuisances dealt with, it will be
observed that internal cleansing of walls and ceilings occupies
the foremost position in the table, for in 437 premises this work
has been performed, the number for the year 1906 being 338.
Defective drains and connections have been discovered in 348
houses, as compared with 379 for the previous year. In every
case notices were served, and the defects remedied either by the
owner, or by the Council at the owner's request and expense.
The system of drainage that is general throughou the
Borough is the combined system, which works very satisfactorily,
for in designing and constructing the drains manholes have been
provided, affording facilities for inspecting and clearing when
necessary.
