In October, owing to the prevalence of Diphtheria, the Ward
accommodation for this disease proved inadequate. It was, therefore,
decided to discharge the Tuberculous patients, and after
disinfection of the Ward they had occupied this was also used for
the treatment of Diphtheria cases.
The admission of these patients is often urgently required,
as immediate operation in some cases is absolutely necessary. By
the above arrangement it was found possible to accommodate
every case desiring admission, and from October to the end of
the year 24. Diphtheria cases were nursed in this Ward. Although
these cases of Diphtheria were nursed in the Enteric Ward, they
are for convenience all included in the list given on page 17 dealing
with Diphtheria patients.
In addition to the above a case of Erysipelas was admitted
to the Hospital, and also treated in the Enteric Ward. It will,
therefore be seen that although very few cases of Enteric Fever
required nursing during the year, very valuable use was made of
the Enteric Ward and its Staff.
