Patients suffering from Erysipelas are almost invariably
treated at home, but in one instance a man was admitted to the
Isolation Hospital, as the attack was a severe one and the home
conditions rendered it undesirable that he should remain there.
ALCOHOLISM.
During 1907 four deaths were registered as due to either
Acute or Chronic Alcoholism. As stated in previous reports,
these figures only represent a small proportion of the deaths
really due to this cause.
Cirrhosis of the Liver, a condition most often due to chronic
alcoholic excess, caused during the year the deaths of 11 persons.
There were also nine deaths of Infants registered as being
due to " overlaying " in bed. Many of these deaths are really
caused indirectly by alcoholism.
Of the above 15 adults /whose deaths were due to either
Alcoholism or Cirrhosis of the Liver, five were males and ten
females.
